EU orders: VAT and delivery

We ship to the EU from the UK. Here's what that means for VAT and delivery.

Personal orders up to €150 (no VAT number)

If the goods in your order are worth €150 or less, your country's VAT is collected at checkout, so there's no VAT to pay when your parcel arrives. Delivery doesn't count towards the €150, because it's charged separately. The limit is the value of the goods only, before VAT. It applies to the total of all the goods in your order, not to each item.

On these orders we also prepay the EU customs duty, so nothing further should be due on delivery.

Orders over €150

VAT is not charged at checkout. Your country's import VAT, any customs duty and the carrier's clearance fee are payable when the parcel arrives.

Buying for a business?

If your business is VAT-registered in an EU country, enter your EU VAT number in the VAT box in your basket before you check out. We check it straight away against the EU's VIES register. If it's valid, VAT is removed from your order, including delivery.

Your order is then sent duties unpaid. Your business pays import VAT, and any customs duty or carrier fee, when the parcel arrives, and can normally reclaim the import VAT in its own VAT return. This applies to orders of any value.

If you don't enter a VAT number, your order is treated as a personal order (see above).

Not in the EU?

Norway, Switzerland, Liechtenstein and Iceland are not in the EU, so the arrangements above don't apply. Orders to these countries are sent duties unpaid: local VAT, any duty and the carrier's fee are payable on delivery.

Customs checks

Customs checks can still delay a parcel. If you're asked to pay VAT or duty on an order where it was collected at checkout, please contact us before paying so we can look into it.
